Kennedy Dancers
The Kennedy Dancers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New Jersey, founded in 1976 by Diane Dragone. We are a Professional Repertory Company, an Inner City Youth (ICY) Pre-Professional Training Program, and a Dance School that offers high-quality performances, dance education, and professional training to children, teens, and adults throughout New Jersey and the greater metropolitan region. We are committed to responding to the diverse needs of our community, including young children, at-risk and incarcerated teens, low-income families, people with disabilities, older adults, and BIPOC and AAPI individuals. Through our cable television show, Dance Vista, we reach audiences across 22 states on the Verizon network.
The KD Repertory Company: Under the direction of Diane Dragone, the repertory company employs professional dancers and teachers, ensuring year-round employment. The company presents performances in contemporary, neoclassical, theatrical, and ethnic fusion styles, featuring works by internationally renowned choreographers. The company also brings performances and classes to schools, theaters, and public spaces throughout Jersey City.
Dance Vista TV Show: This cable TV show airs on Verizon Arts Access stations across New Jersey and reaches 22 states. It features a dance curriculum based on the NJ Board of Education standards, interviews with dancers, and showcases of original choreography, especially by emerging female BIPOC, AAPI, and LGBTQ+ artists.
The Inner City Youth Pre-Professional Training Program (ICY): The ICY program provides full and partial scholarships to young dancers, ages 10 to 18, training in various dance styles such as modern, ballet, contemporary, and ethnic dance. The program helps students develop professional-level skills and assists them in the college audition process. ICY participants are recruited through workshops in Jersey City schools, social media, the juvenile justice system, and our cable TV show.
The Dance Studio: Our dance school serves students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to senior citizens. We offer a variety of dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip hop, and more. Our unique "Creative Aging Program" provides adults 55+ with free access to six dance classes per week. The studio also serves as a rehearsal space for the repertory company and the ICY program, contributing to our cash flow and sustainability.
