The Institute of Music for Children

With a mission to nurture personal and academic development, The Institute offers year-round group classes and private instruction in drama, instrumental music, voice, dance, and visual arts for children and teens in grades K-12, as well as options for adults.

At The Institute of Music, students work in small groups with professional artists and educators, learning valuable skills while building self-esteem and developing collaborative, communication, and leadership abilities. The heart of their mission is H.A.R.M.O.N.Y. – Helping Achieve Responsible Motivated Optimistic Neighborhood Youth. Through in-depth arts experiences, the Institute fosters the growth of young people, helping them achieve personal and academic success.

Program offerings include a wide range of workshops and residencies, such as drumming, vocal music, musical theatre, acting, songwriting, music exploration, podcasting, mural arts, poetry in motion/spoken word, dance expressions, and electronic music production. Each program is designed to engage students and enhance their skills, from learning percussion basics in Build the Beat to exploring diverse dance styles in Dance Expressions. Acting 4 All teaches theatre fundamentals, while Poetry in Motion brings writing to life through creative expression. Mural Arts allows students to create public art pieces, and Electronic Music Production lets them compose their own music.

The Community Arts Institute brings master teaching artists to schools, community organizations, and social service agencies throughout New Jersey, reaching over 500 students annually. These dynamic residencies can be tailored to meet the needs and budgets of various sites, introducing students to art forms, enhancing curricula, and addressing significant social issues.
