Hudson Theatre Works
Hudson Theatre Works is a not-for-profit regional theatre bringing high-quality productions to the New Jersey / New York area. It is committed to ensemble collaboration and artistic risk through its work with its permanent company, guest artists, partner institutions, and the surrounding community. It seeks to tell stories, both old and new, classic and contemporary, which reflect our lives, relationships, and the world today.
Founded in 2011 by Frank Licato, Karen Brady, and Gregory Erbach, Hudson Theatre Works boasts a growing and adventurous community hungry for challenging performances. They honor and advance that appetite by choosing aesthetically diverse material rooted in authenticity. From highly theatrical world premieres to distilled re-imaginings of modern classics, their plays inspire reflection, spark discussion, and pump blood. Their low-price ticket prices allow everyone to experience first-rate live performances regularly.
Through their main stage productions, they present quality work with Off-Broadway values. Their PlayWorks readings of new plays engage the playwright and the audience in creating new work. Their in-house group, The Forge, is a creative playground for writers, actors, and directors to develop fresh careers and perfect their craft. Their children's theatre has sold out audiences asking for more. They are proud that the critics call them "A Theatre On The Edge!"
Hudson Theatre Works' development lab, The Forge, allows emerging and established artists to find a safe place to develop new work and explore new avenues of creativity. Comprised of invited playwrights and a company of actors, the lab provides an incubator for developing new plays. The Forge also allows actors to practice and hone their craft. Developing solid bonds between artists enriches all involved.
Hudson Theatre Works is dedicated to providing opportunities that bring live theatre experience to our community's students. Hudson Theatre Works offers an array of classes for professionals and novices alike. The company members taught types include acting (beginning and advanced), scene study, monologues, and playwriting.
