DanceKerr & Dancers
Dance Kerr & Dancers is an NYC/NJ-based dance company founded by Brooklyn native dance artist/educator Michael Kerr who has been self-producing his choreographic works since the company's founding in 2015. Kerr's developing repertoire of dances is rooted in modern and contemporary dance techniques that play with the contrast of stillness and great physicality within the realm of dance expressionism. His dances are a by-product of the lived experience translated into DANCE, emulating internal struggles and successes, among other unexpected sources of inspiration.
DanceKerr & Dancers has recently established itself as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance company. The company is comprised of LGBTQIA+ individuals who share their collective values of promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion.
Dance Kerr & Dancers works to provide safe and welcoming dance performances and learning opportunities for all individuals who are supportive of their creative work and values. They believe that through dance performances and community engagement learning opportunities, the message of dance can be experienced as a kinesthetic-interdisciplinary way of discovering and embracing self, others, and life within their shared world.
DK&D is in the early planning phase of planning and providing free community-building dance-making workshop projects for adults (21+) beginning in Fall 2023, as well as community engagement workshops for high school-age students that address the issue of bullying in a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental creative learning environment. Diversity and inclusivity are essential to them.
