Claymore Vets
Claymore Vets is a veteran support organization that seeks to cultivate an inclusive, creative, and connected community of veterans and artists through clay and arts. An amazing team of regulars and part-time volunteers are committed to helping others by operating at this nonprofit. Claymore Vets was founded by US Marine Corps veteran Maria Mia Salazar, who obtained a degree in Art Therapy with a focus in Ceramics and Art History after being honorably discharged in 2011 with the rank of Sgt, E-5, having served 9 years.
Coming from a military background, their founder understood the disconnection veterans face when re-entering the civilian sector. “We were trained to be mission capable but at our core, we're creators,” Salazar said. Having a sense of community and belonging is crucial in the re-assimilation process for veterans. Thus creating an inclusive and imaginative community is the goal for Claymore Vets. The organization facilitates exhibitions, events, and collaborations.
