Center for Modern Dance Education
The Center for Modern Dance Education (CMDE) is a non-profit community arts organization that aims to promote modern dance and related art forms and make them available to everyone while serving as a resource for the professional dance community. Through quality dance programs, the Center seeks to nurture talent and instill confidence in every student, preserve the legacy of modern dance, and nurture its future. The Center believes that dance is for everyone, including individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, older adults, and people of all income levels.
CMDE is a member of Dance New Jersey and the National Guild of Community Arts Education. CMDE is a current recipient of a Citation of Excellence from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
CMDE runs Moving Experience classes for students with developmental disabilities, and people with developmental disabilities can also take regular classes as appropriate to their skill and experience level.
CMDE’s philosophy of inclusion also extends to older adults, adult beginners, and other “non-traditional” dance students. They have dancers of all ages, sizes, and ability levels and can assist you in finding a class suitable to your individual needs.
CMDE also offers specialized outreach programs for various populations, including seniors, people with disabilities, youth-at-risk at risk, people with unique health concerns, and others.
