Barron Arts Center
The Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge, a beautiful structure honored with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, recently celebrated its 140th Anniversary. The Baron Library, built in 1877 and located at 582 Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge Proper, now serves as a center for the arts.
The stunning Richardsonian Romanesque Revival style building, with its stained-glass windows and clock tower, provides an intimate setting for various art activities. The facility hosts musical performances in many styles, a monthly forum for poets, arts, and culture, lectures, and learning opportunities. They also offer a vast array of art exhibits by nationally renowned artists and artisans - in addition to the work of notable New Jersey artists that regularly grace the gallery of the Baron Arts Center.
Recently, the building was upgraded to include accessibility so everyone can enjoy the programs, special exhibitions such as the Annual Holiday Model Train Display, and local art. The Barron Arts Center has a vast of programming, with options that will surely interest everyone.
With the support of the Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission and under the direction of Cynthia Knight, the Barron Arts Center offers programming to the public free of charge. Patrons seeking opportunities to volunteer time and services can get involved with our "Friends of the Arts" volunteers, a support group for the Barron Arts Center.
The Barron Arts Center offers art classes all year round for children and adults. One class is a fun comics-making workshop with the Fifth Wuarter graphic novel's award-winning author and a New York Times contributor. Learn how to tell your stories using comics and create your cartoons! The class includes a free autographed hardcover book. Another art class, the Barron Center, offers takes place on Saturdays, for all experience levels who wish to learn or improve their painting and drawing skills may join! There is an eight-week kid drawing and painting program session and an eight-week adult painting program session.
