Atlantic Brass Band

Atlantic Brass Band is one of North America’s premier all-volunteer brass bands based in greater Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey. The Ensemble-in-Residence at Rowan University comprises educators, college students, professional musicians, and non-music professionals. The band is committed to bringing the art and artistry of “brass banding” to the surrounding community through entertainment, education, artistic collaborations, and fundraising partnerships.

Originally formed as the Wheaton Brass Band by Yorkshire-born Herb Roselle and his wife Lucy in 1984, Atlantic is one of the oldest bands of its kind in North America. The band hosts a yearly season of concerts, contests, and festival performances of all types. It has frequently performed at events such as the Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, International Trumpet Guild Conference, Great American Brass Band Festival, National Trumpet Competition, Music Educator’s National Conference Eastern Division conference, and the NJ Music Educators Conference. The band has also performed internationally with tours of Italy and the U.K., performances in Canada, and participation in the 2013 World Brass Band Championships (Netherlands), the 2018 Brass In Concert contest (England), and the 2018 and 2024 Scottish Open contest (Scotland).

Atlantic is the proud host of the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival, held annually in February, and of the Rowan Atlantic Youth Brass Band, which is in collaboration with Rowan University and its Community Music School. The band has produced several albums, including Metropolis, The Spirit of Christmas, Pageantry, and more.
